Paper Players 46 and Sketchbook Saturday 10

Monday, May 9, 2011

The color challenge this week at the Paper Players is just awesome!  I may have mentioned a time or two before that I think Cherry Cobbler is the best red EVER.  And it's been a while since I've used it, so I was happy to see it in this color challenge.

This seemed like a great color combo to do a masculine card.  The cards made by the Paper Players design team were terrific and seemed to be leaning towards masculine, so I thought I'd give it a go.  Since I love to combine challenges, I poked around in blogland for a while and settled on the Sketchbook Saturday sketch challenge for a layout.
However, once I decided on the colors and the layout, my mojo decided to take a vacation!  I went through at least four incarnations of this card before I settled on this one, and I'm still not sure I like it!

At this point, I don't even remember the first thing I was going to do with this card (clearly it was so traumatic my mind has blocked it out), but the second one involved owls, the third one was turtles and lastly I thought a butterly would be nice!  I'm glad I chose the butterfly because I do like this beautiful butterfly from the Simple Friendship stamp set.  I stamped it in Cherry Cobbler then stamped over it in Versamark and embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I know the embossing doesn't show up in the photo, but in real life it looks fabulous!  In the end, I'm not sure this is a masculine card at all but I'm pretty sure my Dad will like it when I give to him for his birthday!

Hopefully my creative juices will come out of hiding soon because I've got a lot of challenges I want to do!  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have time to stamp today!

Jen, I LOVE this card. You did a fabulous job combining the two challenges. Your butterfly is rich and luscious. Combining the En Francais with this was a masterful touch.
So glad you joined the Paper Players again this week.

I think you're right - not masculine but a gorgeous card anyway! I love that background paper.

Hey, you didn't combine the owls, turtles and butterflies on one card so it's all good! :-) Glad you stuck with this one too--it's beautiful. I love how your colors are "blocked" in the layout--I can never achieve that look. Great use of the sketch too. Thanks for joining us at The Paper Players this week!

I can so relate to a card going through many transformations before settling on something. I think choosing the butterfly was a great choice. Love the simple additions of the 3 brads on the bottom left.

Simply delightful, Jen! I love the cool colours, very masculine but the butterfly and flourishes add a wonderful feminine touch to it. Love this card! Thank you for using my sketch :) :)
