CAS(E) This Sketch 383

Hey there!  It's time for a new sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch!  I went far into my stamping vault for this one and used an old favorite flower die for my card.

A few days ago I was scrolling through my blog searching for a particular card that I made many years ago.  While I didn't find the card that I was looking for I did manage to reminisce about many cards that I had made and forgotten about.  A few cards used this fun floral stamp that I used on my card today.  I remember that when I got the stamp I was so in love with it that I used it frequently.  But then, for one reason or another, it got put in a drawer and I forgot about it - a short attention span is the problem, I suspect!  So I decided that floral stamp needed some love so I inked it up.  I made the card one-layer by drawing frames around the floral stamp and the sentiment.  I love doing that!

The challenge at AAA Cards is maxi white space with optional florals.  I think this passes muster!

Thanks for stopping by!  Check out our CAS(E) This Sketch challenge and all the wonderful cards our design team has made to inspire you to play along!

Freshly Made Sketches 446

We've got a great new challenge for you at Freshly Made Sketches!  Our talented design team member Linda has embraced the new slimline card trend and is challenging us to create a slim card.  And what's extra fun is that the design is entirely up to you!

I'm almost out of time to create a Christmas in July card so I was determined to do one before I flipped the calendar to August.  I used some edgers dies to create a line of color along the bottom of the card then accented the layout with a poinsettia in classic Christmas colors and a gold-embossed sentiment.

One thing I've noticed about these slimline cards is that there's a prodigious amount of space to fill up!  I managed the task on this card with a big poinsettia and a big sentiment.  I recently went shopping and got some dies specifically for these cards so hopefully I will get better at decorating all that space!  I did manage to use a stitched die for the edge which allows me to play along with the Christmas Card Throwdown challenge.

Thanks for stopping by!  Let's see your slimline cards at Freshly Made Sketches!

Freshly Made Sketches 445

Hello everyone!  We've got a new sketch for you at Freshly Made Sketches and I am the hostess!  I went with a design that, I hope, gives you some room for interpretation.

I chose to use the colors from the Just Us Girls challenge and stamped a grungy circle in gray that I accented with leaves in teal and frosty vellum along with a slim scalloped layer in a mustard color.  A slim birthday sentiment and I was done!  Incidentally the teal I used is the Stampin' Up! version of it which looks quite blue, especially when I photograph it.  Apologies to the Just Us Girls crew if it seems I was circumventing the color. :)

Thanks for stopping by!  Our Freshly Made Sketches design team has made some amazing cards to inspire you to play along with us.  I hope you'll join us!

CAS(E) This Sketch 381

Hey all!  I've got a new card today for our latest challenge at CAS(E) This Sketch.  Apparently slimline cards are a "thing" so I decided to make one for this challenge.

I flipped the sketch and used a little leaf and floral design to take the place of that small rectangle.  The idea to make a slimline came from the Just Us Girls challenge.  It's funny that what is old is new again.  I remember that years ago I made a big card like this to fit in a #10 business envelope.  I kept that card for a long time because I loved it so much (even though I can no longer remember what exactly it looked like) and didn't want to part with it.  And now these slim cards are popular again!

Thanks for stopping by!  At CAS(E) This Sketch our design team has got some fabbo cards to inspire you to play along with us!

Freshly Made Sketches 444

Hello!  Today at Freshly Made Sketches we are debuting a brand new sketch designed by Jen Timko.  Check out this sweet square number!

This card turned out so much better than I thought it would when I designed it in my head!  That big square space actually had me a little stumped!  So when that happens I usually start looking through my stash of stamps for tried-and-true ones that make me smile.  I found this Funky Florals set and stamped them in the colors of the Paper Players challenge.  I added a small grungy stamp behind the flowers to provide some contrast to the white-on-white layers and found a slim vertical sentiment that tucked in around the flowers perfectly.

Thanks for stopping by!  My Freshly Made Sketches teammates have made some gorgeous cards to inspire you to play along with us.  I hope we'll see you in the gallery!

CAS(E) This Sketch 380 Meets Fusion

Every couple of weeks I get to stretch my creative arms, as it were, and combine a sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch with an inspiration challenge at Fusion.  This time around a curvy sketch met some flowers.

I spent a long time on that curved layer.  I really didn't have a die in my stash that could do it for me.  I tried free-hand cutting the shape - not a good idea 😳but ended up using a combination of a landscape die and some free-hand cutting.  To add a bit of interest I poked holes along the uppermost curve.  It looked too plain without some kind of embellishment.  Then I added a line of wee flowers along the gentle bottom slope.  The inspiration photo had a pale gray background for those little pink and yellow cupcake flowers so I tried to recreate some of those colors here.  The sentiment was gently curved to follow the same track as the curved layer.

Thanks for stopping by!  My fellow teammates at CAS(E) This Sketch and Fusion have made some super fantastic cards for you to see.  I hope you are inspired to join us in the gallery!

Freshly Made Sketches 443

Hey all!  Apologies for being a wee bit late with my Freshly Made Sketches post. Our hostess and sketch designer this week is Lee Ann.  What a fun sketch she made for us!

I opted for a subtle design for those triangles on the top and bottom so I used embossing paste and a stencil to create the design on those layers.  Then I layered a leafy die cut on top and added some sequins.  My colors were inspired by the Less is More challenge.

Thanks for stopping by!  My fellow design team members at Freshly Made Sketches have got some beautiful cards for you to see.  I'm sure they'll inspire you to play along with us!

CAS(E) This Sketch 379

So we've got a new sketch for you at CAS(E) This Sketch.  And it's a throwback one all the way back to Number 62 which debuted in January 2014.  I didn't play along with that particular challenge but I sure was inspired by one of the design team cards!

Back then Jen Wills made a card that struck me as super fun.  It was lines of random letters that she spotlighted with a particular sentiment.  I loved the idea and that sent me on a search of my stamp sets to see if I could do something similar.  I found this Christmas background stamp and set to work figuring out what size card I would need to accommodate the size of the stamp.

The end result is the strangest card size I think I've ever made!  It might actually suited to be a tag rather than card!  The size of the background stamp just wasn't big enough to accommodate a diagonal layer on an A2 card.  So I kept cutting my card down so that the diagonal layer would fit.  Then I popped up a HO HO HO in red to make things a bit more interesting!

Thanks for stopping by!  My fellow CAS(E) This Sketch teammates have made some great cards to inspire you to play along with us.

Supplies
Stamps:  Ho Ho Ho Background (My Favorite Things)

Freshly Made Sketches 442

Hey all!  It's time for a new sketch from your friends at Freshly Made Sketches!  This week our hostess is Jacquie and I [suddenly] had the perfect thing for that cluster of ovals and circles!

I have long coveted the Upsy Daisy die from My Favorite Things.  Alas, it is retired and all my attempts at finding it at eBay or Splitcoast have amounted to disappointment.  Recently, I happened to mention my love for it to my papercrafting friend Claire of Life on the Scrap Heap and she graciously offered to send me a bunch of the die cuts.  They arrived on Monday and immediately realized they would be perfect for this sketch.  Claire was nice enough to send me a generous supply so I've got a bunch to last me a while!

Thanks for stopping by!  Stop by Freshly Made Sketches and check out the inspiration there.  I hope you'll join us!
