I don't remember how I stumbled on it, but I found a challenge blog called Try Stampin' on Tuesday that I have never participated in before. They have a sketch this week that is pretty nifty, so I combined it with the color challenge at Create With Connie and Mary.
Connie and Mary have created a color challenge that includes Concord Crush which is one of the colors retiring in just a few short weeks. Since I've been trying (somewhat sporadically) to use up these retiring colors, I find this very thoughtful of them!
I used this color with a little DSP from Lap of Luxury. I actually didn't like this paper pack all that much, except for this particular sheet of Concord Crush. It's got this wonderful leafy design that you can see a hint of in the photo. The flower from Raining Flowers is stamped in Marina Mist. I stamped off on the bottom layer to give it a bit more contrast with the top one.
Earlier today I went to a ceremony honoring my father. He has been involved with his local VFW for about 50 years and today the VFW dedicated and named their meeting room for him. He didn't know that this was happening - he thought he was going to a fund raiser! Instead what he got was a dinner and ceremony with about 90 people. It was quite an emotional day for him. We're so proud of him and happy that he was acknowledged for his dedication and service.
Thanks for stopping by!

Beautiful card Jen--you rocked that sketch. The CC dp you chose is just perfect for the flowers. What a special day for your father--you must be so proud of him! Thank you for joining us at CCMC!

Beautiful card! Love the soft colours! Thanks for playing along with us over at Try Stampin;-)
Very nice card--a perfect fusion of the sketch and color challenges.
So glad your father was honored in such a nice way. I know you're proud, and I would like to thank him for his service to our country, no matter how long ago it was... and then for his dedication and work for so many years with the VFW. I've got a friend whose dad has been involved with his local VFW for a lot of years, and I know how much this means to these men.
congratualations Jen for you and YOUR DAD! Wanted to say this is a lovely card too! Hugs~Donna

Jen this card is so pretty. Love that you used Raining Flowers, I always new ideas for this set. The layered flower just "pops" from the card! So glad you stumbled upon Try Stampin' on Tuesday and decided to play with us this week:)
What a gorgeous card, Jen! That is an awesome sketch, and I love the idea for Raining Flowers, too! That is on my list to show my clubs this month and it has been neglected on my shelf! What a wonderful story about your dad, too...how nice to honor him like that! Thanks for playing along with the color challenge this week on Create with Connie and Mary!
Beautiful card, Jen! I love how you layered the flowers together! And the layer of dsp really makes it all so elegant! Thanks for playing the challenge at Create with Connie and Mary!
What a fabulous clean and simple design! I just love a lot of white space so the colors just pop! I have a difficult time with this set...going to have to work on it more. Thanks for playing along this week in the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge!
I like the way you combined both challenges and love all the layers you used. Congrats to your dad, how wonderful! Thanks for playing CCMC!
Great card! Love the layout. Love your choice of stamp sets and the way you layered the concord crush to the back. That really makes the flower stand out. Thanks for playing the Create with Connie & Mary challenge this week!
