Freshly Made Sketches 484

We've got a great new challenge for you at Freshly Made Sketches!  This week our hostess is Amy and her sketch got me thinking about negative space.  Take a look!

Using the colors from Crazy 4 Challenges I stamped the leaves on  two pieces of cardstock then cut out a square from one of those with the intention of layering it over the other.  The negative space it created became the square on the sketch.  I added a slim sentiment I was done!

Thanks for stopping by! My friends at Freshly Made Sketches have made some amazing cards with this sketch so be sure to check them out!

Supplies
Stamps:  Dot Botanicals (Altenew); Tons of Type (The  Stamp Market)
Paper:  Night of Navy, Whisper White (Stampin' Up!)
Ink:  Bamboo (Altenew); Tempting Turquoise, Night of Navy (Stampin' Up!)

Fusion Challenge

This week we've got a challenge for you at Fusion that has got some pretty cacti on it.  They surround a delicious looking cake frosted in a pink ombre design.  I've got supplies that can handle ombre stripes - a la the sketch - but I didn't own any cactus images so I went to Etsy to find some!  Etsy always to the rescue!

It was actually a little bit hard to find shades of pink that can be layered together and also be in the same color family to make a convincing ombre design.  But after some searching through my stash I managed to find some cardstock that fit the bill and created a design with these vertical strips.  The potted plant was colored with Copics and popped up to create a little dimension.  Lucky for me they are looking for  stripes at Crazy 4 Challenges!

Thanks for stopping by!

Stamps:  Crasus y Cactus (La Scrapista); Wallpaper Art (Altenew)
Paper:  Solar White (Neenah); Primrose Petals, Pretty in Pink, Pink Pirouette (Stampin' Up!); X-Press It Blending Card
Ink:  Onyx Black (Versafine); Copics

CAS(E) This Sketch 331

It's time for a new challenge at CAS(E) This Sketch!  This week our sketch is designed by the super talented Brian.  I'll admit those vertical layers gave me pause but I ended up finding a scrap of patterned paper with some long stripes in my stash so I separated the stripes into the correct sizes a-la the sketch and away I went!

I also wondered about the bottom layer and as I often do when I'm in a card-making pickle I go to vellum to save the day.  So I ripped a couple of strips and they became that bottom layer on the sketch.  Then I added this little gnome and a Christmas sentiment as I was done!

There are Christmas challenges all over the place so I'm going to play along with the Crazy for Challenges this week.  You know what's really crazy?  Thinking about Christmas when it's 90-degrees outside!

Thanks for stopping by!  My CAS(E) This Sketch teammates have made some fabulous cards with this sketch so be sure to check them out.  I hope you can join us in the gallery!

Freshly Made Sketches 379

It's time for a new challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  This week our hostess is Judy and she's given us a classic sketch!

I was inspired by the colors at Fab Friday as well as the flower challenge at Crazy 4 Challenges to dig out this oldie but goodie floral image from Stampin' Up!  I stamped one flower on the card base then another that I cut out to layer on top.  I added the green horizontal layer in between the two flowers but thought it looked too plain so I die cut a scribble to add on top of it to jazz things up!

The wee sentiment ended up popped up on a layer of cardstock because my first attempt smudged when I tried to stamp it directly on the card base. 😜There are no mistakes in stamping so I knew right away that the fix was to do it all over again as a layer!

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you've got time to join us in the gallery at Freshly Made Sketches!

Supplies
Stamps:  Reason to Smile (Stampin' Up!); Tiny Words (Simon Says Stamp)
Paper:  Solar White (Neenah); Mossy Meadow (Stampin' Up!)
Ink:  Crisp Cantaloupe, Calypso Coral (Stampin' Up!); Nocturne (Versafine Clair)
Accessories:  Scribbles & Splat Thinlet (Sizzix); Royal Garden sequins (Pretty Pink Posh)

Hello Butterfly

I found myself with a little extra time this weekend to squeeze in a little project for a few challenges. The colors at Color Throwdown are wonderfully neutral and when I saw them I thought about doing an old technique that, I think, might be called mother of pearl.  It involves crumpled up cling wrap and some shimmery paint.

Well, fast forward a couple of days and I see that the January challenge at CAS Mix It Up is to use cling wrap.  How's that for a coincidence?  Not one to ignore a sign from the crafty muses I got out my supplies and went to work on this card.

I had a really hard time photographing this tag so that it showed off the colors properly.  I used gray, vanilla, and black but the vanilla disappears and my mother of pearl background looks quite dingy.  One of these days I'm going to hire an actual photographer to come to my home and teach me how to take proper pictures!  The butterfly was actually done in two layers.  The solid bottom is done in vanilla and the top is actually done in vellum and has many cut-out dots.  I wish you could see how pretty this is in real life!  **sigh**  And I included one more challenge.  At Crazy 4 Challenges they are looking for tags.

Thanks for stopping by!

Freshly Made Sketches 245

Summer is in full swing here and we are halfway through our July challenges at Freshly Made Sketches!  This week I am the hostess and now is the moment when I reveal the sketch and card that I designed for the challenge - always a nerve wracking time!

The sketch says square but making a square card is not necessary to play along.  I just happen to like square cards!  I think I must be the only one who likes them because it's been a long time since we've featured one at Freshly Made Sketches and I think it was one of mine!

I based the sketch on a card that I had made a couple of years ago.  That card used these colors also so I had them on my mind when I made this one.  I happen to love So Saffron and if Stampin' Up! ever retires it I will be really mad!  As mad as I was when they retired Baja Breeze!

There's a challenge this week at Crazy For Challenges to make a card of encouragement.  Apparently, July 11th is "Cheer Up the Lonely Day" so they've coordinated their challenge around that.  I used a sentiment from Verve  and this particular set is full of encouraging phrases and a few of them are arranged in this subway style.  Those are perfect for fitting on a decorative banner like the label die I used.

Well, I hope you enjoy my sketch and get a chance to play along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.  Our always-amazing design team has made some beautiful cards with it so be sure to pop on over there, if you haven't already, to see their inspiration.  I hope you can join us in the gallery!
