Avast. Me Hearties

Well, it's finally here.  Today is Talk Like a Pirate Day so I thought it would be a good idea to put together a little tutorial to give you an idea about some of the things you could say to your co-workers, family and friends.  Be sure to work these phrases into your conversations at appropriate intervals and, if you can swing it, have a toast to Captain Jack Sparrow himself!

The colors are from the latest Color Throwdown challenge, but I started with this pirate treasure map stamped in Versamark to create a watermark image.  Then I just stamped the pirate-worthy sentiments in the challenge colors.  All of this pirate goodness comes from The Alley Way Stamps and the sets Treasure Island, Land Ho and Black Beard's Loot.

I thought of a few helpful ways you could use these phrases.  When you're at work you could say something like "Blimey, the copier is jammed again" or "Arrgggh, lunch break is over already!"  At home, when your kids put their dirty clothes in the hamper rather than on the floor next to the bed say something positive like "Yarr a treasure" and maybe they'll do it all the time!  Really, the possibilities are endless.

I'm also entering this over at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge blog where they are hosting a challenge that requires items available in their store.  These stamps definitely fit that bill!

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to talk like a pirate!

Shiver Me Timbers

I know that parrots can be taught to speak a little, but with this card I think I've officially got the smartest pirate parrot there is.  He can speak in complete sentences!  He is from Black Beard's Loot and he gets his famous sentence from Treasure Island.  Both can be found at The Alley Way Stamps.

I used the soft colors at Dynamic Duos and paired it with the Mojo sketch.  For the circle on the sketch I used a bit of burlap and it wasn't until I went to photograph the card that I thought the burlap called to mind a bird's nest.  Not exactly, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Blimey!

In preparation for Talk Like a Pirate Day I couldn't resist making a card to celebrate the day.  (Incidentally, while I'm typing this I'm watching Pirates of the Caribbean so what better inspiration is there)?  I inked up my favorite pirate from Land Ho and positioned him in front of an honest-to-goodness pirate map from Treasure Island.

I tried to make the map look like it was old-fashioned so after I stamped it I crinkled up the card stock, smoothed it out, gave it a few spritzes of Log Cabin Smooch Spritz then lightly sponged it with some Walnut Distress ink. I wanted it to look like old, crinkly vellum and I think I did a pretty good job.

The layout for my card comes from Sketch Saturday.

Land Ho!

Finally I had some time to make a card for the Feeling Nautical challenge at the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge!

And what's more nautical than an old-timey pirate ship?  Not much, I say to myself!  Lucky for me the brand new Land Ho set from The Alley Way Stamps was perfect for this challenge (not to mention the Black Beards Loot set that provided the sentiment).  I paired it up with the sketch at Sketch Saturday, although I turned the sketch upside down so that the sails on the ship had a place to fly!

Yarr a Treasure!

Looking for my Freshly Made Sketches and Color Throwdown post?  Click HERE!

Several days ago I checked out the challenge at Sunday Stamps and said to myself  "oooh."  The blue with the yellow and orange spoke to me and at that time I had no idea what I wanted to do with those colors, I just knew that I wanted to do something.  Well fast forward a week or so and I had an epiphany involving a treasure chest, some colorful sequins and the sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch.

Jack Sparrow notwithstanding, I'm a huge pirate fan.  I know the historical figures were probably bad people who most likely smelled, but boy do they conjure up some fun images!  Take this treasure chest for instance. Who wouldn't love to have that in their closet?  This is just another fun image in the Black Beard's Loot stamp set.

And of course by now you've realized that I turned the sketch upside down, but I think that's ok.  At least I hope it is!

Thanks for stopping by!

Ahoy Matey!

I consider it very fortunate that this week the Cupcake Inspiration challenge is about pirates!  This is fortunate because The Alley Way Stamps just released a couple of pirate inspired stamps sets and I am in love with them!  And I also found a new sketch challenge to play along with called Feeling Sketchy.  They had this awesome sketch that I wanted to try.

The awesome pirate and his jug of rum are from Land Ho and the fun sentiment is from Black Beard's Loot.  Once I started to assemble my card I realized that the circle would look really good as a starburst.  The other day I was looking at a starburst die and didn't buy it (for which I am now kicking myself) so I had to create my own.  I took a circle of Summer Starfruit card stock and cut it into slices then rearranged it with spaces between the slices.  Not exactly the look I was going for, but it will have to do!
