CAS(E) This Sketch 341

We've got a great new challenge for you at CAS(E) This Sketch.  This week our host and sketch designer is Brian and my first instinct when I saw the sketch was to dip into my never-ending stash of patterned paper.

But I ended up going in a different direction.  After all what could be more fun than piecing a million tiny pieces back into an inlaid die cut?  LOL!  I was inspired by the argyle image on the sketch but I chose to do a slightly different interpretation.  I cut this honeycomb die in the middle of the white cardstock, creating the negative image, then cut it two more times in pink and gray.  Then I started the process of inserting the pink and gray pieces back into the negative space.  I added this sentiment because I think that this sort of card is something only a fellow card maker can appreciate!  The colors come from the challenge at Happy Little Stampers.

Thanks for stopping by!  My fellow design team members at CAS(E) This Sketch have made some great cards for this challenge so be sure to check them out!  I hope you join us in the gallery!

Freshly Made Sketches 404

The calendar says Wednesday so that means it's time for a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches!  The calendar also says autumn but the temperatures outside are saying summer, so what do I know!  I am loving these dog days of summer, though. Winter is coming so I want to enjoy this warm weather as long as possible.  But back to our Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  This week our hostess is Amy and I love her classic sketch.

I used some scraps I had on my desk from my favorite poinsettia die plus the colors from the latest Just Us Girls challenge pointed me in the direction of a Christmas card.  I loved that little oval on Amy's sketch so I dug deep into my stash to find my long-neglected oval nesties.  I put that altogether and voilà!  My card was born!

Thanks for stopping by!  I've checked out the cards my Freshly Made Sketches teammates have made and you do not want to miss them so be sure to check them out!  I hope you'll join us in the gallery!

CAS(E) This Sketch Meets Fusion

So today is that day when I show off a card made by blending the sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch with the inspiration at Fusion.  This week I was served a coffee theme and since coffee stamps are sorely lacking in my stash I turned to Etsy for help.  And I found a great image!

The coffee lifeline image was easy to print on a piece of cardstock then I stamped some coffee rings on top of it.  Done!  So easy peasy!

Thanks for stopping by! My fellow design team members at CAS(E) This Sketch and Fusion have made some great cards to inspire you so I hope you can play along with us!

Freshly Made Sketchles 403

Another week has come and gone 😳 and it's time for a new challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  This week our sketch is designed by Narelle.  Her sketches always look so simple.  Yet she manages to take those sketches and layer them up while still keeping them clean and simple.  She's so gifted!  For my card I chose the traditional CAS route!

I went with a Christmas theme because I'm always worried that I don't have enough Christmas cards in my stash for the new season!  I'd rather have too many than not enough come December.  For my card I heat embossed the first layer of angled stripes in gold then added a strip of dark red cardstock and another slim white layer with a sentiment.  In between are a couple of pine boughs and a sprig of berries.  Super simple and relatively easy to put together!

At Jingle Belles they are looking for a "peace" theme so my little sentiment fits the bill there.

Thanks for stopping by!  My fellow Freshly Made Sketches design team members have made some great cards with this sketch so check them out!  I hope we'll see you in the gallery!

Tag You're It 96

We've got a fun new challenge for you at Tag You're It.  It's a button theme and as luck would have it I've had some button/flower dies in my stash for ages and finally I've got a good excuse to use them!

I liked the pretty patterns on the buttons in the inspiration photo so I combed through my patterned paper stash and found some pretty paper with patterns that made cute buttons!  Then I thought it would be fun to add a flourish background to my tag and strategically place my faux buttons around the flourish.  I actually ended up using quite a few things in my stash that have gone un-loved for a long time so I'm happy about that. 😀

I especially liked this challenge because my mother is a bit of an amateur seamstress.  She sewed when I was a child and taught me some basic skills (which I complemented in high school with some sewing classes).  She's 84 years old and recently started working with a volunteer group that sews dresses that are donated to children in poor countries.  She's become known in her group of seamstresses for embellishing her dresses with buttons, and bows, and lace so I plan on giving her some supplies so that she can continue to do that.  This tag is perfect to add to my little gift!

Thanks for stopping by!  My fellow Tag You're It design team members have made some fantastic tags for our challenge so I hope you have a chance to check them out!

CAS(E) This Sketch 339

Sometimes when I see a sketch an idea for a card does not immediately spring to mind and I have to spend a bit of time pondering.  I ponder in the car, I ponder when I go for a walk.  I even ponder at work - when I'm supposed to be working. 😉  And then suddenly an idea pops into my head.  It's a miracle!  This week my sudden idea came about for the latest challenge at CAS(E) This Sketch!

I thought replacing the heart on the sketch with a paw print was a really cute idea!  Then I only needed a complementary sentiment and I was done.  Super easy!  That doesn't happen often so I celebrate those small victories.  My colors are based on the challenge at TGIF.

Thanks for stopping by!  My fellow CAS(E) This Sketch teammates have made some amazing cards with this sketch so be sure to check them out!  I hope you can play along with us!

Freshly Made Sketches 402

Well it's Wednesday again!  How did that happen?  And if it's Wednesday that means we've got a new sketch for you at Freshly Made Sketches.  This week our hostess is Karren.

The weather has turned a bit cool here reminding me that fall - and eventually the dreaded winter - is just around the corner.  So I had the warm colors of fall on my mind (inspired in part by the challenge at Sunday Stamps) when I sat at my desk to make this card.  I found some some lovely gingham paper in my stash which formed the horizontal layer on my card then I filled those circle shapes with layered flowers (and leaves)!

CAS(E) This Sketch 338 Meets Fusion

It's that time again when my design teams collide and I try to combine the sketch challenge at CAS(E) This Sketch with the inspiration at Fusion.  Fall was definitely on my mind when I sat at my desk to make my card.  And I was helped along by a couple of other challenges too.  How accommodating the crafty world is!

I loved the fall street scene in the Fusion photo so I dug into my extensive stash of leafy dies and chose one that had leaves just the right size.  I got a bit sidetracked by colors and decided to use the ones from the As You See It Challenge - I love how the gold contrasts with the shades of green and teal.   Then I got sidetracked once again by the "splash something on your card" challenge at Just Us Girls!  I see a pattern here!  So, I splashed some color behind those leaves.

Well that's it for me today!  Thanks for stopping by!  There are two great challenges on the block:  CAS(E) This Sketch and Fusion.  I hope you have time to check them out!

Freshly Made Sketches 401

Whew!  That was quite a month we had at Freshly Made Sketches!  We reached our 400th sketch with a small trip down memory lane and capped it off with a brand new sketch and prizes for some of our lucky participants!  So now it's time to get back to business with a brand new sketch.  This week our hostess is Cécile.

I really tried to channel my inner Cécile with my card.  I so admire the way she artfully designs her cards.  She always uses interesting backgrounds and unusual die cuts and each card is a masterpiece.  So I tried to keep my card clean and yet still be interesting.  I gold embossed some coffee rings to add a metallic touch, added some soft vellum leaves, and a bold, yet simple, birthday sentiment.  I'm really pleased with how this turned out!

There are a couple of other challenge I'm playing along with too.  Less is More is looking for metallics and TGIF wants us to use embossing powder.  That's a match made in heaven!

Thanks for stopping by.  We are well on our way to another 400 sketches at Freshly Made Sketches 😳so I hope you'll go along with us for the ride!
