Land of the Free

Well, hello Monday.  It has been a long time since I've posted anything on my blog that was not made for a design team challenge. And I'm super excited to post this particular card because there's a bit of a story behind it.  I used the sketch at Can You Case It, which was perfect for what I wanted to do.

I flipped the sketch to accommodate the flag and used stars instead of flower shapes.  And now for the story:  My uncle was chosen for the Honor Flight New England which is a program that honors veterans by flying them on a VIP trip to Washington DC.  Before they leave on the trip each veteran is given a mail bag full of letters and cards from family and friends to commemorate the special day.  Since I'm the resident card-maker in the family I just had to make something or my name would be mush!  I'm really pleased with how this turned out (except for the crooked striped paper), so I'm hoping that my uncle doesn't notice that it's crooked!

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies
Stamps:  Old Glory (Deep Red); USA 1776 (Waltzingmouse Stamps)
Paper:  Crumb Cake, Night of Navy, Real Red (SU)

Ooops! Why can't we just edit our comments? What I meantto say:

What a wonderful idea that is Jen, such a great thing to do to honour these men! I LOVE your card, and I doubt your Uncle will notice that the lines aren't perfectly straight, because,

a. He will be so touched by the gesture, and (more importantly)
b. Men NEVER notice anything! ;)

Have a great week my friend! Hazel xx

What a fabulous card for a special event. I am sure your uncle will appreciate it and not even notice the lines. They look like part of the design to me.

My dad was on the WI Honor Flight a couple of summers ago. He was thrilled by being chosen, and if you get the chance to meet the flight, I highly encourage you to go. Hundreds and hundreds turned out to greet the returning Vets, and the thunderous applause continued until they all passed by. It was spectacular, and your uncle will enjoy his day from start to finish. Your card for him will be a treasure all his lifetime. It's wonderful, and those stripes aren't crooked, they're waving in the breeze! It's a wonderful commemoration of his trip. He'll love it. Bev

Wow Jen, this card is amazing. I love everything about it and with the red stripes being slightly off centre it really makes the card look like a rippling flag. Thanks for Joining us at CYCI - Chlo Evans
